GIS Mapping
This video covers the basics for learning geographic information system (GIS) mapping. It includes information about different software options and data sources. Finally, it shows what results one can achieve in a historical GIS project through the author’s work mapping German prisoner of war camps in the Soviet Union during and after the Second World War.

Susan Grunewald is the Digital History Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh’s World History Center. She received her PhD from Carnegie Mellon University, where she was a two-time A.W. Mellon Fellow in Digital Humanities. Her research focuses on Soviet history, particularly German prisoners of war in the USSR during and after the Second World War.
